BEARDEN BEARS WILL HOST PARKERS CHAPEL ON FRIDAY
After winning their first game of the year last week 34 to 28 over Cross County, The Bearden Bears will play the Parkers Chapel Trojans Friday night at Rogers Field in their second conference game of the season. Both teams have the identical 1-3 overall records and 0-1 conference records to date. The Trojans have scored 63 points while allowing 119 points and the Bears have scored 64 points and allowed 87 points in their first four games. Parkers Chapel had an open date last week and should be rested for Friday night’s game. Although the Bears lead the overall series by a 9 to 1 margin, Parkers Chapel’s only win came at Rogers Field in 2015 when they beat the Bears 21 to 14 in one overtime.
Parkers Chapel is coached by Jacob Midyett, a 2010 graduate who was an All-State player for the Trojans. Last year, he led his alma mater to a 6-5 record losing to Hazen in the first round of the class 2-A =state playoffs.
They use a Spread offense and a 3-4 defense. The Trojans have an all-conference quarterback in Caleb Jacobs - a junior who passed for school records of 1,416 yards and 18 touchdowns last year.
The Trojans have a good running back in Ryan Simpson, a senior who gets upfield quickly. The Trojans have a good slot receiver in Hunter Palculict who caught 20 passes last year averaging 11.6 yards per catch. Its line is led by Garrett Taylor (225) Will Richie (250), Braden Bohannan (255) and Shawn Barnes (210).
By winning last week, the Bears should play with more confidence Friday night after getting the proverbial monkey off of its backs especially on offense.
Kick-off will be at 7 p.m. at Rogers Field on Friday.
